For Rachel Busler Misenar, art has always been her first true love. Rachel grew up in the American South. Her appreciation for art was fostered early on by her father who taught her about the great painters of our time and took her on excursions to New Orleans’ art district on Magazine Street. Rachel’s work is deeply connected to her past and her environment. Always aware of her roots, in her paintings, Rachel looks closely at her surroundings—the plants in gardens and parks—and paints them rooted in the soil that sustains them. She layers paint and colors and creates lively patterns to capture their intricate, natural lacework. Rather than individual objects, she depicts networks and ecosystems. 

Rachel’s work takes days to develop. She preferences organic shapes and lines and prefers natural colors. She uses acrylic paint, though she also enjoys ink and watercolors, as well as collage and mosaic. Rachel is in awe of the natural beauty of the world around her. She hopes that her artwork will inspire people to stop and notice its beauty. 

Rachel lives in the Belhaven area of Jackson, MS.  She is happily married with 3 beautiful children.  She is an active member of St. Andrew's Cathedral in downtown Jackson.  When she is not being creative, she enjoys the outdoors, exercise, traveling, and gardening.  She shows professionally at The Caron Gallery in Tupelo, The Caron Gallery South in Laurel, Crooked Letter in Meridian, Brown's Fine Art and Framing in Jackson and Turnrow Art Company in Greenwood.  Rachel has been a part of curated shows that span from the Southeast all the way to New York City.
