Sory Yager

Yager’s art has been recognized with grants from the Mississippi Arts Commission, the Andy Warhol Foundation, The Stephen R. McCrae Grant, and the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation.

Sory has received merit and purchase awards for her work in watercolor, acrylic, oil, mixed media, and silk painting. Her favorite media is watercolor as it is “so spontaneous and there is such excitement in the unexpected outcome.” She considers herself a colorist.

In 1985, she became interested in art and in 1988 she returned to college to achieve a Degree in Marketing and Associate Degrees in Art and Graphic Design.

She honed her skills by attending workshops by world renowned artists, learning from her students, and endless hours of practice.

Sory Yager was born on the Gulf Coast. For many years, her husband’s job relocations took her to many foreign countries and places in the United  States. In 2006, he moved to Hattiesburg, MS from Bay St. Louis following Hurricane Katrina.
