As a child, Sidney Crews was inspired by her mother’s love of art and painting. This inspiration led Sidney to study art in college where she earned a B.A. in graphic design at the University of Mississippi. However, her true passion was in painting with oils. Never feeling one can learn enough, Sidney continued learning new techniques and approaches as she studied with other artists as Anne Enochs, Wyatt Waters, John D eLa Vega, Eleanor Hughes, Kim English, Bob Pennebaker and Camille Przewodek.
Artist’s Statement:
I paint for many reasons. I love to view art and experience something new or be reminded of a place through art. I want others to feel a memory or be introduced to a completely new idea or thought because of my work. Nature and the colors in creation are my inspirations. Life and relationships and the complexities of our world also influence my subject choices. The process of painting also holds a deep fascination for me – finding your composition, applying paint, experimenting with brushes, knives and surfaces all lead up to a unique creation. I hope others will enjoy the results.
