From the Japanese word for enjoyment, raku is an ancient pottery technique requiring a combination of intuition, discipline and creativity, responding to fire’s effects on clay and glaze. With swirling rainbows of irridescent color, each raku creation has a design, form and palette all its own.

Robert Sunday’s vessels are hand thrown on a potter’s wheel. Many are embellished with inlay and detailing with geometric and art deco influences. These orderly design elements provide a striking contrast to the unpredictable colors, crackling, and smoking from the raku firing.

Sunday has worked exclusively in raku for over thirty years and has participated in prestigious international workshops . His raku pottery has won numerous awards and has been featured in many magazine articles.
