From the lush magnolias and azaleas in her native Mississippi to the sun-soaked sunflower fields in the south of France, Peyton Hutchinson finds her inspiration in nature and translates into vibrant and textured compositions.

Peyton Hutchinson applies the paint to her canvases with consistently choppy strokes from her palette knife and wide brushes. Her landscape paintings are organized into distinct horizontal and vertical planes that appear abstract up close but turn into beautifully composed scenes from afar. Whether the subject is a still life or a large landscape, Peyton allows vivid color and texture to fill and enrich her canvases.

After studying at the Rhode Island School of Design and graduating from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Fine
Arts degree in painting, Peyton makes her home in Ridgeland, MS.  She realized her love for painting natural landscapes while studying abroad at the Marchutz School of Art in Aix en Provence, France.  Although she enjoys painting still lifes, her experience in Europe remains a prevalent theme throughout her paintings today.

“I recently returned from a plein air painting excursion to Lake Como and the Tuscany regions of Italy.  The enchanting and romantic villages surrounding the lake provided ample opportunities for creative expression.  Here I employed the plein-air painting techniques developed by such French Impressionistic painters as Monet, Van Gogh, and Cezanne.  This style allowed me
to capture the scene through the use of vivid color and light.  While in Tuscany, I used these same techniques to portray the essence of the wine country and the poppy fields.”

From the time her sixth grade art teacher recognized her talent, she has pursued her dream of becoming a painter.  She has
continued to study a wide array of techniques from realism under the tutelage of famed Mississippi artist Bob Tompkins to impressionism with Italian painter Jerry Fresia.  Today her work is displayed through solo exhibitions and fine art galleries in the Southeast as well as fine art shows throughout the country.  Art is a passion for Peyton, and she feels blessed to pursue it everyday as her profession.
