Elizabeth Johnson is drawn to large, strong color planes that effortlessly harmonize within her unerring compositions. Best known for her still life paintings (using acrylic on board) she is able to meld the classic still life tradition with her singular contemporary sensibility. She possesses a discerning eye for line and color and form.
Elizabeth has the distinction of being a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, the Rocky Mountain National Watermedia Society, the Mississippi Watercolor Society, the Louisiana and Southern Watercolor Societies.
She is a native of Jackson, Mississippi and spent her early childhood in China where her father served as a medical missionary. She studied at Agnes Scott College and graduated from Rhodes College with a BA in history.
At an early age she studied art with Marie Hull as well as in the public schools in Jackson. She later studied with Nadine Parker at the Memphis Academy of Arts, with Rebecca Hendrick and others at the Mississippi Museum of Art School and has attended many painting workshops.
Her paintings hang in a number of corporate collections including Lakeland Surgical Clinic, Deposit Guaranty National Bank, Paine Webber and Mississippi Chemical.
